  2. Add 25–30 g of yerba mate to the cup.

  3. Cover the top of the cup with your hand, tilt it to about 45°, and gently shake to create a yerba mountain.

  4. Pour a small amount of warm or room-temperature water into the empty space and wait 2–3 minutes for the leaves to absorb the water. Try to keep the top layer of yerba dry.

  5. Insert the bombilla into the empty space, making sure the tip is tucked beneath the yerba at the bottom of the cup.

  6. Pour the prepared hot water into the space beside the bombilla, avoiding flooding the top of the yerba mountain.

  7. Sip through the bombilla without stirring or moving it.

  8. Refill with water as needed. With each refill, gradually wet more of the yerba mountain until all the leaves are saturated and the flavor becomes mild.Drink the entire serving before refilling, and avoid letting the yerba sit in water for extended periods.

If you don't have a thermometer, bring the water to a boil and let it cool for 5 minutes, or mix 2 parts hot water with 1 part room-temperature water.
